Doulas
A doula is a birthing helper. Your doula will accompany you through your pregnancy and help you prepare mentally, physically and logistically for the birth of your baby. A doula may or may not be a trained midwife or Registered Nurse. She may or may not be qualified to assist you with breastfeeding. Especially first time parents typically find the services of a doula to be invaluable, because of the dedicated support in their birthing experience. Whilst your doctor will only be present for critical parts of your labour (including the delivery at the end) a doula will be there with you from the start and provide you with comfort and support in managing your birthing experience and practical advice on medical intervention where necessary.
