Originally a ballet dancer, Colleen has always been interested in exercise and movement in one form or the other. When she moved to Singapore, she took a yoga class and was immediately hooked. It was obvious to her that here was a discipline that encompassed all the elements of movement. Yoga became her passion and eventually she passed her teacher’s diploma in 2001. When a few of her students became pregnant, she devised a routine of simple, yet effective postures that they could practice during their pregnancy right up to delivery and beyond. She has now been the resident instructor at Mother & Child for over six years. Colleen believes that Yoga is a wonderful way to heal existing problems and maintain good health. A regular prenatal practice is helpful in supporting a comfortable pregnancy and more efficient birth. Colleen’s intention is to introduce the student to her body. This may seem strange, but so many people do not realize how tense they are and how damaging this can be to their health. Learning to relax the body through stretch movements has a profound effect on their attitude to themselves, others and their environment.

Hi Colleen - My baby boy is about 5 months now and I believe I messaged you on the day I delivered. I think the prenatal yoga was definitely very helpful!

I wanted to let you know that we had a baby girl, Lara, born in the early hours of Oct 11th. All went well and swiftly, thanks in part i'm sure to all that yogic breathing and stretching etc... enjoying getting back into the disturbed nights etc but love being a mum again. Looking forward to introducing you to the little lady soon in the post natal classes...

My baby was overdue and I had to be induced. The pain was so bad that I asked for an epidural. By then I was only 2 cm dilated... I was disappointed at my low threshold of pain but within the hour, I was fully dilated and ready to give birth!! It must have been all the good yoga conditioning as my gynae was impressed that I got the baby out in two pushes!! It is now with the baby that I realise how precious that time to myself was... I'm basically on call 24 hours for the little one now but I'm finding it very fulfilling :-)

Dear Colleen, I wanted to let you know that the baby was finally born last week. He was 10 days overdue and unfortunately so large that he wasn't able to come naturally. Even though I didn't go through labour naturally, I felt very relaxed and prepared for the endevour because of the yoga and swimming in the lead up to birth. I can't thank you enough for your classes and advice.
Hi Colleen - thankfully, all is good. I had a small tear because i must have pushed my baby out too fast too hard (i couldn't help it!) :P but it was v fast. 2.5hr of labour. i'm sure all the stretches and squats did a good deal of help. i miss doing yoga because yoga really gives me the whole body exercise and toning so required by pregnancy, esp when you have a toddler to run after. the body needs the pampering and care and the mind to just relax and calm down even if it's for an hour or so. so... can i still come for pre-natal classes?? haha... please say 'hi' to the gals in class. we should organize a get together with our kids... will be so much fun! :)
